Während in anderen Ländern das Mostgewicht in Oechsle (nach Ferdinand Oechsle) gemessen wird, verwenden österreichische Weinbauern die Klosterneuburger Mostwaage, kurz KMW. Es handelt sich dabei nicht nur um eine Maßeinheit, sondern tatsächlich um eine Messgerät, eine Senkspindel, die in den Traubenmost gehängt wird und direkt den Zuckergehalt in Prozent anzeigt (g/100 g).

Als Maßeinheit wurde KMW vom ersten Direktor des Önologisch-Pomologischen Institutes in Klosterneuburg, Freiherrn August Wilhelm von Babo, 1881 eingeführt.
